Driving for the 2010 Olympics.

Imagine driving into the Olympic Village on a crisp winter morning to transport the best athletes on the planet to their venues. Meet them in person and feel the tension and concentration of the world’s best as they anticipate their gold medal day. Experience the excitement of international spectators as you transfer them to the various events to see their heroes excel in their disciplines. You’ll make new friends and meet people from all over the world. And you’ll have the bragging rights to tell your friends and grand children that “I was there!”

PW Transit (Whistler) has been contracted by BC Transit to operate the transportation services of the Whistler portion of the Olympic Winter Games.

Note: hiring is now over for Whistler Transit as of Feb. 10th.

Go to www.pwtransit.ca for more details.

Or go to bctransit.com/olympics

Personally, I am using four weeks' vacation time, plus lieu days, and one give-away shift to guarantee I'm able to attend. I received my offer of employment on Nov. 6th. My flight is being donated by Air Canada. I fly out Jan. 27th and will return Feb 28.

Accommodations are provided free of charge at several three-star hotels, with two drivers per room. Details to follow.

Two meals are provided each day. The pay is $24.05 / hour for drivers, and mechanics at $33.75.

My own comments are that people need to keep in mind that this is a working holiday. The goal should be to make your own contribution to hosting an outstanding Olympics for the world. I expect the work to be challenging at times, as this is winter driving in the mountains. We may even have to put chains on our wheels. But I could never afford to attend the games on my own, and look at this as a wonderful opportunity.
